TapeSum support
Help with TapeSum: Construction Calc — Feet, Inches & Fractions.
Email tapesum@gmail.com with your device model, iOS version, app version, and what you expected versus what happened. For a calculation issue, include a non-sensitive example of the inputs, operators and rounding settings. Do not send passwords or payment-card details.
Enter feet, inches and fractions
Use 12' 3 1/2" for twelve feet, three and one-half inches, 8' for feet, 7 3/4" for mixed inches, or 3/8" for a fraction. A number without a unit is treated as inches. Decimals use your local decimal separator. The app’s feet and inch shortcuts append a unit mark to the end of the input.
For example, 12' 3 1/2" + 8' 7 3/4" gives 20' 11 1/4". Enter each measurement in its own row and choose the operator between rows. Tap any earlier measurement to correct it; you do not need to reconstruct the expression.
A calculation looks wrong or is invalid
Check the unit marks and the selected operator. Multiplication and division take a number, not another length. Multiplication and division are evaluated before addition and subtraction. Division by zero, a fraction with a zero denominator, incomplete inputs and values outside the engine’s integer range produce validation errors rather than a usable result.
Use Rectangle Area for length × width. It requires positive dimensions and a positive whole-number quantity. Its square-foot display is separate from the length calculator’s tape rounding; changing a tape increment does not round the rectangle dimensions.
Understand tape rounding
The exact result retains the fraction. The tape result uses your selected increment: 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 or 1/64 inch. The signed difference is the tape result minus the exact result. “Higher” means the rounded number increased; “lower” means it decreased.
Nearest midpoints round away from zero. Down means toward negative infinity and Up means toward positive infinity, including for negative values. The default for new calculations is nearest 1/16 inch. Defaults in Settings apply to new calculations; saved calculations keep their own rounding settings.
Save, reopen or compare a calculation
Save to a named worksheet when you want to keep related work together. History records completed valid calculations automatically, not every keystroke. Reopening history for editing creates a new result; deliberately saving changes to a worksheet item updates that saved item. Use Make a copy before experimenting when you want to preserve the original.
Free includes one worksheet with up to five saved calculations. Pro removes those saved-capacity limits. Calculation tools, history and sharing remain free, and existing saved work remains accessible even without active Pro access. Creating a saved duplicate counts toward saved capacity.
Saved work will not load
Use Retry if the app reports a storage-loading error. Do not delete the app as a first troubleshooting step: worksheets are local and support does not have a server copy. If you can still open the Library, share important summaries before troubleshooting. A shared text summary is a readable record, not a restorable database backup.
Unfinished drafts may be lost if the app is terminated. Save important work first. Check for an app or iOS update, then reopen the app or restart the device if the issue continues. Send support the exact error message without exposing private measurements.
Share a summary
Open Share to review the summary, then choose Share summary and a destination in the native share sheet. The output is plain text with inputs, results and rounding details; TapeSum does not generate a PDF. Creating the summary works locally. Email, messaging or another receiving app may require a connection.
Pro options, restores and subscriptions
The optional guide and Pro offer can be dismissed with Skip, Close, Start calculating free or Continue free where shown. Pro offers yearly and lifetime purchase options, without a monthly plan or introductory trial. The App Store provides the price shown before purchase; availability may vary while the app is in pre-release testing.
If purchase options are unavailable, check your connection and choose Try again. You can continue calculating free. In a pre-release build, the purchase configuration may still be incomplete; repeated retries will not resolve that. Contact support if the issue persists.
If you previously purchased Pro, use Settings → Restore purchases with the Apple Account that made the purchase. A pending approval may need to finish before access changes. If a restore fails, keep the error message and contact support rather than purchasing again to troubleshoot.
Use Settings → Manage subscriptions or Apple’s subscription settings to manage the yearly option. Lifetime is a one-time purchase. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Apple handles billing and refund requests through Report a Problem.
Readability and offline use
Choose System, Light or Dark appearance in Settings. Text size follows your iPhone or iPad settings. Calculations and local saved work do not require an internet connection; purchase options, restores and entitlement refreshes use Apple and RevenueCat services. TapeSum has no account or worksheet cloud synchronization.
